Each patient’s physical and psychological well being is our primary concern. Yet, without technology we would achieve only partial success in giving patients what they need and want.

By offering a ‘preview’ of your new smile, shortening healing time, finding decay earlier, giving you better information and developing more solutions to various oral health problems, technology has transformed how we approach your care. It can give you peace of mind and clear a path to a beautiful, natural-looking smile and a healthier outlook overall. Click on a highlighted technology to find out more about its beneficial elements.

Intraoral Camera - Better information for you / for us

Magnification has made it possible for science to take great leaps. In dentistry, we also use magnification to do more things better than we could before we had these tools. The intraoral camera, about the size of large ink pen, offers a perspective that helps the patient and our team make better decisions on care. Small cracks and pits are easier to see and catch before they harbor disease and do serious damage.

Both patient and practitioner are able to view old restorations such as metal fillings and crowns close up. Without this type of information, the doctor needs to make a recommendation without the patient’s full ‘visual knowledge’ of the condition of their teeth. The camera’s immediate, full-color and easily understood information is not possible with a x-ray.

Worry-Free Care - Comfort comes in many forms

Your dental experience should be relaxed and comfortable. We promote healing and offer biologically friendly techniques that our patients appreciate. Our sterilization and disinfecting methods meet or exceed government regulations. Instruments not disposed of are heat-sterilized using autoclaving technology. We use ceiling exhaust to eliminate vapors that can be created when silver fillings are being removed. Our practice does not place metal fillings.

Operatories and exam room fixtures and furnishings are continually cleaned and disinfected. We also wear masks and gloves during your treatment.

Perio-Microscope - Seeing gum disease before damage occurs

Because gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults we have to be forever vigilant. The perio-microscope makes this an up close and personal crusade.

Your gums protect the root of your tooth. Gum disease is always trying to build up under your gum line. At its worst, it destroys the root and then finally your bone tissue. After taking a sample of plaque from a periodontal pocket (where dangerous bacteria can hide next to your tooth), Dr. Hwang places the sample under this powerful microscope. Depending on the bacteria present, specific treatments are recommended.

At appropriate times during your treatment, further samples are taken to assure both Dr. Hwang and you that the bacteria are under control. This painless test can save your teeth for many years to come.

Smile Imaging - Preview your 'new' smile

What would I look like with a new smile? Would it be dramatic and increase my confidence? Would it make me look and feel younger? Technology gives you a chance to have a look at the possibilities.

First, we take a photograph of you smiling. Then we create a digital smile design that can give you a surprising glimpse of your ‘new’ smile. During a comfortable and informal visit we can show you this exciting technology that has given many the confidence to go ahead with their smile transformation.

Diagnadent - Finding decay more consistently

Disease and decay are a constant threat to your teeth and gums. Once we can see decay with the naked eye, it usually means severe damage has occurred, and is sometimes irreversible. Diagnadent laser technology is the latest breakthrough in decay detection.

When the laser detects decay, it gives us both visual and audio cues. The higher the pitch and measuring number, the more likely decay is present in the area pictured by the laser. This kind of diagnosis helps us catch disease that is deeper and smaller. It is especially helpful in detecting disease under old restorations such as metal fillings and crowns that are somewhat detached or loosened from the natural tooth structure. These old restorations might be stable, but can harbor disease.

The P-Laser System - Complete healing, faster

The P-Laser is a low-level laser. The laser gently provides patients with more comfort before and after treatment.

It is used in three different types of treatments.

• Implant Placement – it helps patients heal faster, experiencing less discomfort

• Periodontal Treatment – patients feel little if anything during treatment, and heal and see improvement in gum-tissue color faster

• Endodontic Treatment - many patients requested/required pain medication after root canal therapy - few need or want prescription pain medication after we use the P-Laser System.

The Halimeter - Finding the cause of bad breath

Chronic halitosis (bad breath), caused by volatile sulfur compounds that develop from bacteria usually found on the back of the tongue, is difficult to eliminate. Standard consumer/over-the-counter products like mouthwashes, pills and mints don’t alleviate this problem. The halimeter detects and identifies these odors.

It is used to monitor bad breath treatment and provides Dr. Hwang with an important element of treatment information. The Halimeter must be used within a full treatment plan because these odors vary in their levels from time to time. Other diagnostic methods are used to determine the full-extent of the bad breath condition. Gum disease can also cause bad breath and needs to be ruled out as a cause or be treated to alleviate other problem odors.
